How to Build a Zone
Create an idea - something medieval or fantasy. It should be something that intrigues you, because you will be spending a LOT of time with it! Write a proposal - [read Help Building] - and send it to Glob and you will most probably be assigned a zone number to work with. Map it out - make a map of your part of the world. Put room numbers on it and use it to make notes. It will be very valuable for you. Write the world - write the .wld file, and don't be surprised if it seems to have a mind of its own. Load it up - email your file to mudadm@britomartis.com and one of the world imms will load it up on the test site. Write mobs and objects - create the mobs and objects that will give your world life! Test - walk through every room. Check every door and every exit from both sides. Check every key. Look at every mob fully loaded to be sure they are wearing what you expect, where you expect them to wear it. Ask the object and mob groups to look over your zone and arrange for play testing with the ptest group. Walkthrough- at a formal walkthrough you will be expected to walk through every room and explain your ideas, exits, etc. Implement- Your zone will be sent to 4500 and the quest team notified to announce the zone. Tune - zones never play quite the same way on 4500 as they do on the test site. You should expect to need to tune your zone - make minor modifications to mobs and/or objects - after the zone goes in. |
